2017: Cauam Ferreira Cardoso

Cauam Ferreira Cardoso receives his award

Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP)

Cauam is highly deserving of this award for helping to develop, introduce and teach courses that the DUSP has adopted part of its standard curriculum. He also helped to design online video learning tools, and gained strong and enthusiastic support from the many students whose intellectual and personal lives he touched.

One faculty nominator wrote, “… his most impressive teaching endeavor has been that of instructor of undergraduate subject 11.005 Introduction to International Development in 2015 and 2016. Cauam completely redesigned the class when he took over, using an original pedagogical strategy that helped students improve both technical and critical thinking skills.”

Another declared, “He has thought deeply about urban development, and more importantly for our Department, he has figured out the best way to teach about urban development and to help our students become reflective practitioners.”

Selected testimony from students includes:

“He embraced difficult subjects with an openness that was contagious.”
“He paid extraordinary attention to all of the students and showed enormous care for them, closely monitoring and mentoring each one’s intellectual progress and learning trajectory.”
“Cauam taught from a multitude of perspectives in a thoughtful, engaging and fun way.”
