Required trainings

New MIT graduate students are warmly welcomed into our collaboration to create a healthy and vibrant campus community. Onboarding to MIT includes three  online courses toward this goal. These courses are administered through a partnership between the Office of Graduate Education (OGE), the Institute Discrimination & Harassment Response Office (IDHR), Intercultural Engagement (i.e.), and the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards (OSCCS).

  1. Sexual Assault Prevention-Grad Pt 1 and Pt 2
  2. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Stud Pt 1 and Pt 2
  3. Learning About Academic Integrity

The Office of Graduate Education provides a number of services to current and prospective graduate students, including student support and development – on topics as wide ranging as conflict negotiation and academic progress; diversity- and community-building; advice on fellowships; clarification and oversight of policies and procedures; and support for the Graduate Student Council.

The Institute Discrimination & Harassment Response Office serves as a resource at MIT for concerns related to discrimination and discriminatory harassment (including sexual misconduct, intimate partner violence, and stalking) for faculty, staff, postdocs, and students.

Intercultural Engagement works to foster a more inclusive, equitable, and affirming MIT campus climate. IE provides intersectional social justice education, support, community-building, and leadership development.

Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards facilitates student growth and learning through an educational conduct process that upholds MIT’s values and community standards. OSCCS is the beginning point of all conduct and academic integrity complaints against students and student organizations and is an impartial resource for all parties in the complaint resolution process.

New graduate students must complete part 1 of the SAPG and DEI courses, as well as the Academic Integrity course, by June 24, 2024. These courses will take approximately 75 minutes each. In September, students will be prompted to complete Part 2 of the SAPG and DEI courses (10 minutes).

Please note that a registration hold will be placed on the account of students who do not complete all three courses. This means a student will not be able to register for FALL 2024 classes until they complete all three courses.

If any student has personal concerns about completing Sexual Assault Prevention for Graduate Students, they should contact Simi Ogunsanwo at for a waiver. No personal details will need to be disclosed. To speak confidentially with an advocate in MIT’s Violence Prevention and Response Office, call their helpline at 617-253-2300 or e-mail
