Sara Prescott
Professor Prescott’s leadership statement
“I run a research group, and I try to encourage my students to remember that we cannot be effective scientists if we are unhappy or unhealthy outside of the lab. I also worry that there’s this idea among early students that you must choose between a successful PhD or having a personal life–this is a false dichotomy, and a problematic attitude. I encourage the students to make time for themselves, when needed. Graduate school is a marathon not a sprint.
I had two mentors who made an important impact on me early in my career, one was my advisor and another was a senior scientist in her lab. They saw something in me and gave me the encouragement I needed to believe that I could succeed in science. I will be forever grateful.”
