Professor Chandrakasan’s leadership statement

“I strive to lead through collaboration and close mentorship, working alongside students as they navigate not only technical challenges but also the broader complexities of academic and professional life. Across my research group and broader academic community, I see myself as a partner in my students’ growth—helping them clarify their ideas, articulate their contributions with confidence, and understand how their work fits into a larger purpose. My technical advising is direct because I believe clarity is a form of care, but it is always personal and tailored to the individual, focused on drawing out each student’s strengths rather than imposing a single template of success. I help in creating space for students to think deeply, develop their own perspectives, and arrive at their own solutions—an approach that builds both independence and confidence. Above all, I care deeply about my students, and their well-being matters more than any single result. Ambition and deadlines can drive progress, but they should never come at the expense of health or balance—there will always be another opportunity to present, publish, or compete. I make it a priority to show up for students, especially in the moments they need support most, and my commitment to them extends well beyond graduation.”
