“I think my position and mentoring style is like a “mother hen”. I feel a deep sense of responsibility for every student who joins my lab, and I genuinely want each of them to succeed. Leading with care is at the core of how I see myself. When students know that I truly care about them as people, not just as producers of data, it builds trust. They understand that they are not just workers hired to complete a research project, and that I do not value or judge them solely by their output. That trust gives them permission to take intellectual risks, to be honest when they are struggling, and even to fail—while knowing they still have my full support. Mutual trust is what makes for authentic connection.”
