Legal Considerations

The Office of Graduate Education requires applicants to attest to the following legal considerations prior to submitting an application to a graduate program at MIT.

Legal Considerations for Completing an Application

By creating this application and filling out your information, you agree to the following statements:

  • I will complete all the applicable spaces on this form and I affirm their accuracy. I agree to the terms of this application and its instructions, and I confirm and declare that all of the information that I have provided in this application is my own work and, to the best of my knowledge, complete and accurate. I consent to MIT having the right to verify any information presented in my application. I understand that any misrepresentation of the facts on this application may be cause for refusal or cancellation of admission.
  • I will not create duplicate accounts or applications except for programs where multiple applications are specifically and expressly permitted in writing (e.g., on the departmental website).
  • I understand and affirm that I have an obligation to inform the MIT Graduate Admissions Office immediately if there is new information that changes the accuracy of my answers to any sections of this application after submission.
  • I understand that if I am offered admission, the offer is based on the information provided to MIT in this application. MIT reserves the right to withdraw or rescind an offer of admission under any of the following conditions:
    • any part of my application contains misrepresentations;
    • if I fail to graduate, do not receive an undergraduate diploma (or its equivalent) by the end of the current school year, or otherwise will not hold the academic credentials I presented as part of my application;
    • if I am currently enrolled in a degree program, I show a significant drop in my academic performance between now and my graduation (as determined by MIT);
    • if I accept MIT’s offer of admission as well as an offer of admission to another college or university for the same period of enrollment;
    • if I engage in behavior that brings into question my honesty, maturity, or professional suitability; or
    • if I engage in conduct that violates MIT policy, including but not limited to those in the Mind & Hand Book.
