About the Blog

Welcome to the MIT Grad Blog! These pages provide a window into the lives of MIT graduate students.

They write of their experiences– navigating MIT, braving that first Boston winter, taking the formidable machine learning class, discovering the best boba this side of the river, persisting through any number of side quests, adventuring abroad, and meeting roommates, labmates, and best friends. They write of cornerstones of the grad experience– choosing advisors, working with undergraduates, and defending theses. Through it all, their writing reflects back how they have learned, evolved, failed, triumphed, been praised, been criticized, and been inspired during their time at MIT.

Submissions

Grad Blog submissions are open to all currently enrolled MIT grad students. Interested in writing for the Grad Blog?

If you’re a seasoned blogger, once you have an idea, just set up a consultation at the Writing and Communication Center (WCC) to brainstorm, get feedback, and work on revisions.

New to blog writing? Check out the upcoming WCC workshops — they often have one on the art of the blog! You can explore finding your story, write and polish your piece with peers, then submit it at the workshop’s conclusion.

Wondering what sort of content is best suited for the Grad Blog? Think about what you wanted to know before you joined the MIT community! Blog posts can range widely in subject matter, but must be centered on your personal experience as a student. Check out some of our most recent blog posts for inspiration.

When your piece is ready to be considered for publication, your WCC writing consultant will share a submission link with you. If your piece is selected for publication, you’ll receive a $150 honorarium for your contribution.

To those students who are sharing their experiences – thanks for giving us a glimpse into your life! To any prospective students – let us know if there’s something in particular you’d like to read about.
