Biography

Nataliia Novoseltseva is a senior honors student at Bard College pursuing a joint major in Sociology and Economics, with a minor in Data Analytics. Her academic interests lie at the intersection of punishment, labor, and spatial inequality, with a strong emphasis on quantitative methodology. Nataliia’s work explores how institutions shape inequality across urban and rural contexts, particularly in relation to crime, housing, and labor markets. Her prior research examines the effects of gentrification on displacement, with particular attention to its impact on marginalized communities, using Kernel Regularized Least Squares (KRLS) modeling. Her senior thesis investigates prisons as large, and at times monopsonistic, employers, and their economic and social effects on surrounding communities. After graduation, Nataliia plans to pursue a PhD in Computational Social Science, where she will further investigate how institutions shape inequality across labor and criminal justice systems.
