Biography

Maydha is a rising senior at the University of Colorado (CU) Denver majoring in Biomedical Engineering, where she does joint research with CU Anschutz medical campus. Maydha hopes to pursue an M.D.-Ph.D. to merge biology and engineering techniques to improve medicine for underrepresented populations. Her first research assistant position started with assessing hospitals’ integration of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity (DEI) concepts. Then, she worked in a cardiac tissue engineering lab to promote wound healing through angiogenesis. Currently, she combines DEI with bioengineering by studying biomechanical and genetic differences between sexes in heart failure. Maydha founded her Diversity Inclusion Support and Activism (DISA) club to help her community be more inclusive and participates in the Bioengineering Empowerment Program (BEEP) to introduce bioengineering concepts to underrepresented communities. She enjoys rock climbing, lifting, and painting when she is not working.
