Biography

Luka Todorovic is a rising senior studying mathematics and statistics at the University of Michigan. Although his focus is on mathematical and theoretical statistics, he has conducted a range of research projects across various theoretical and applied mathematical disciplines. His primary work focuses on regression discontinuity designs and optimizing treatment cutoff thresholds to maximize treatment effect, with applications to education, medicine, and econometrics. Luka believes that progress in scientific discovery begins at the foundations of mathematics and statistics, and that employing interdisciplinary perspectives with a more rigorous mathematical approach will lead to stronger long-term growth of scientific research. Beyond his mathematical work, Luka is passionate about atmospheric science, a discipline that much of his research focuses on. Luka takes a particular interest in extreme weather events, utilizing advanced statistical methods to determine key associations between extreme precipitation and global warming, as well as working to harness machine learning techniques to enhance real-time tornado family prediction. Luka hopes to pursue a PhD in either Statistics or Applied Mathematics to continue his work, focusing on theoretical statistics and stochastic methods, with a motivation to address scientific problems.
