Biography

My name is Diego Terrones and I am originally from San Luis Potosi, Mexico but largely grew up in State College, Pennsylvania. I am a rising junior at Rice University where I am a member of Wiess residential college. I am currently pursuing a double major in Physics and Mathematics. My main interest is in how materials behave at very small scales, especially when their electronic structure can be tuned to change how they interact with light or chemicals. Right now, I work in the Ajayan Research Group, where I study 2D materials.

Outside of the lab, I’m involved in my residential college community at Rice where I love playing various Intramural sports such as Soccer and Flag Football. I also love watching these sports along with golf and tennis.

In the future, I hope to pursue a PhD in condensed matter physics or materials science and continue exploring how we can design materials with properties that don’t naturally occur.
