Andrea Asmat is an Economics student at Purdue University interested in behavioral economics, finance, and public policy. She grew up in Lima, Peru, which shaped her interest in how institutions, markets, and policy can expand opportunity and improve economic outcomes, particularly in emerging economies.

In Summer 2024, Andrea studied International Relations at the London School of Economics in London, where she was awarded the LSE Academic Director’s Scholarship in Sustainability and Development. Living and studying in London was a transformative experience for her, exposing her to new global perspectives, diverse academic approaches, and conversations about development, sustainability, and policy through an international lens.

At Purdue, Andrea works as a research assistant at the Vernon Smith Experimental Economics Laboratory, where she helps run behavioral economics experiments focused on decision-making, trust, and financial behavior. She has also gained experience in finance and consulting, including serving as a Financial Analysis and Tax Intern at Banco del Crédito del Perú, where she performed financial reporting and tax analysis across multiple subsidiaries.

Outside of academics, Andrea enjoys traveling, learning languages, conducting research, and working on projects that combine economics, data, and real-world problems. At MIT, she is excited to deepen her research experience, learn new analytical methods, and collaborate with people who are passionate about using research to understand and improve the world. She hopes to pursue graduate studies in the future and continue working at the intersection of economics, finance, and public policy.
