Biography

Amani Kiruga is a rising senior at the University of Delaware, majoring in computer science with a minor in mathematics. His research interests focus on computer vision and scene understanding, particularly in developing models that understand the properties of the 3D world, like geometry, color, material, and motion. Previously, he has worked on human fall detection using camera footage at the University of Delaware’s D-REAL lab. He has also published his work on autonomous vehicle pedestrian detection at the CVPR 2023 Workshop AVA: Accessibility, Vision, and Autonomy Meet. At the MIT Media Lab, he is involved in research on using language models to reduce media bias within the Viral Communications group. Amani’s enthusiasm for research was sparked during his participation in the Google Computer Science Mentorship program in 2022. Additionally, he volunteers as an AP CS A teaching assistant at Trenton Central High School through the Microsoft TEALS program.
