Biography
Adiba Amira Siddiqa is a rising junior and a first-generation college student originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is majoring in Astrophysics and Applied Mathematics at Haverford and Bryn Mawr College. Her interest in astrophysics began at a young age when she visited a planetarium in Bangladesh and heard about black holes for the first time. That moment left her with a curiosity that has stayed with her ever since. As an undergraduate, she started her research by building machine learning methods to detect dark star candidates under the supervision of Professor Cosmin Ilie at Colgate University. This led her to continue her research at Haverford College with Dr. Wynn Ho, where she works on simulating gravitational wave signals for LISA and studying the detectability of circumbinary exoplanets. She also collaborates with the AstroAI group under Dr. Rafael MartÃnez-Galarza, where she uses generative machine learning models to analyze galaxies while also trying to understand what these ML models are actually learning from the data. She is especially interested in bringing together astrophysics and machine learning in a way that is both physically meaningful and computationally efficient. Driven by curiosity, Adiba enjoys asking questions that push her to think more deeply about the universe, and she hopes to continue doing so through a PhD in astrophysics.
