Biography

Obadele Akan, ‘23, is a Mechanical Engineering student at North Carolina State University (NCSU). He has shown a commitment to engineering and an interest in working on cutting-edge technology to advance society. He has interned at the Federal Aviation Administration, under the Fire Safety Group, where he researched sustainable jet fuels and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory within the Thermal/Mechanical Reliability Group for the Mars and Europa Missions. Obadele has also implemented experience from Baja SAE to utilize manufacturing and prototyping knowledge in research positions at NCSU and MIT. He displays his passion for engineering academically and through extracurricular opportunities such as the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Within NSBE, Obadele has held multiple leadership positions from chapter to regional level. He is currently the NSBE Region II Vice Chair. His commitment to empowering underserved communities and technical prowess make him a vital asset to any organization.
