On-campus family housing

MIT has three on-campus housing options for students with children: Westgate, Graduate Tower at Site 4, and Grad Junction.

Back up childcare

15 days of back-up childcare through Care.com

  • $5/hr for in home childcare
  • $10/day for center based care
  • Personal network reimbursement (when Care.com is unable to fill your request)

Cambridge resources

Access to Cambridge Public Schools, the Cambridge Preschool Program, and Cambridge resident resources (for those who live on campus, and students who live off campus in Cambridge)

Events for expecting and new parents

Grant for Graduate Students with Children (GGSC)

  • Need blind grant from $6,500-$8,500, depending on number of children
  • Need-based grant of up to $10,000, depending on income and household size

Programming for student parents and their children

  • Family-focused activities for Grad Student Appreciation Week (April) and Orientation (September)
  • Opportunity to be matched with another student parent for lunch through the Student Parent Connections lunch activity
  • Regular events for MIT families. Past events include rock climbing, ice skating, open swim, and a show at the Wheelock Family Theater.
