It is a place to build community, share resources, and keep you up to date on MIT family-specific policies and programs as well as events happening in the wider community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/oge.mit.edu\/families\/sign-up-for-the-grad-families-newsletter\/\" style=\"border-radius:50px\">Sign up for the newsletter<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GradFamilies events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The events hosted for MIT student parents vary from year to year, but here are some of our past offerings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MIT Families welcome event (orientation event to kick off the academic year!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student parent coffee hour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finals week lunch &amp; aromatherapy activity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GradFamilies spring fling (part of Grad Student Appreciation Week)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mother&#8217;s Day lunch for grad moms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Father&#8217;s Day coffee for grad dads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GradFamilies programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open climbing at Rock Spot<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to try rock climbing? MIT student parents and their children (age 4 years and up) can climb at Rock Spot in Brookline, paid for by the Office of Graduate Education. There is also a designated toddler time for kids 4 and under to climb on smaller equipment, before the gym opens to the public. Reach out to <a href=\"mailto:gradfamilies@mit.edu\">gradfamilies@mit.edu<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ice skating tickets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the winter, the Office of Graduate Education has ice skating tickets available for MIT student parents and their family to go ice skating at the on campus rink during &#8220;general skate&#8221; times. Please reach out to <a href=\"mailto:gradfamilies@mit.edu\">gradfamilies@mit.edu<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other MIT events and programs for families<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open Space programming<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openspace.mit.edu\/calendar\">MIT Open Space<\/a> hosts many family friendly events, which are open to the public. Past events have included kid-friendly movie nights, outdoor games, a fall party, arts and crafts, music events, and kids clothing swaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Family housing events<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MIT&#8217;s on campus family housing (Westgate, Site 4, and Grad Junction) organize their own community activities throughout the year. Reach out to your dorm&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/westgate.scripts.mit.edu\/main\/about\/contact\/\">executive committee (Westgate)<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/site4.mit.edu\/community\/site-4-advisory-board\/\">advisory committee (Site 4)<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"mit-policy-advocacy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">MIT policy advocacy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"grad-student-council-housing-community-affairs-family-committee\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grad Student Council: Housing &amp; Community Affairs Committee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The GSC HCA &amp; Families Committee is always seeking new members. The HCA &amp; Family Committee has worked to increase family housing options, advocate for affordable childcare options, maintain high-quality and affordable health care options, and improve campus safety for families.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/gsc.mit.edu\/about\/committees\/hca\/\" style=\"border-radius:50px\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learn more about the GSC Committee<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"the-council-on-family-and-work\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Council on Family and Work <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This council monitors the quality of life at MIT and shares its impressions with senior administrators, key committees, and the larger community. Committee membership. This committee includes two graduate students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/facultygovernance.mit.edu\/committee\/council-family-and-work\" style=\"border-radius:50px\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learn more about the Council on Family and Work<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"local-area-community-building\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Local area community-building<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outside of MIT, there are additional spaces where you can find community. Many past students particularly those living off-campus have found these Facebook groups to be a good place to learn about resources and build community.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moms of Camberville (MOC) are Facebook groups for moms of babies born around the same time who live in Somerville, Cambridge, Medford, Arlington, Belmont, and Watertown.
