Annual Graduate Students of Color Welcome kicks off the semester

October 18, 2021

On Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, the Office of Graduate Education welcomed new and continuing graduate students during our Annual Graduate Students of Color Welcome.

GradDiversity’s kick-off event featured a live reading of MIT’s Land Acknowledgement by graduate student Alvin Harvey, AeroAstro, welcome remarks from Institute Community and Equity Officer, John Dozier, a performance of the National Black Anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” led by OGE staff member Heather Konar and a spoken-word piece “Intellectual Brother,” written and performed by graduate student Corban Swain, Biological Engineering.

The GSOC welcome provided a much-needed space to reconnect with old friends and forge new relationships over yummy cuisine and networking bingo. (Congratulations to our raffle winners Chyna M. and Crystan M.!)

Students: If you didn’t have an opportunity to attend the event or snag your very own Graduate School Survival Kit, don’t fret; there are more awesome opportunities to tap into the GradDiversity network this fall!
