Borenstein makes chess more accessible to spectators

February 27, 2015

Graduate student Greg Borenstein spoke with BBC News about his efforts to turn chess into a spectator sport like American football or poker. His group in the Media Lab wants to make the game more accessible to the uninitiated, by presenting complex information on matches in a simple, visually appealing way and give an expert insight into the state of a game. “There’s really something magical about the ability to use computation and statistics to take that drama and that excitement and those brilliant moments an make them visible,” Borenstein explains.
