Ampersand is an eclectic new concert series organized by WMBR and the List Visual Arts Center to feature diverse facets of contemporary music-making bringing innovative musical expressions and visual art together. It will be held on August 15, 2013 at 7:30pm in the Bartos Theatre. It is open to the general public, tickets cost $3 for those with an MIT ID and $5 for the general population. This concert presents artist/composer Julia Kent, an electroacoustic cellist based in NYC.  In recent recordings Kent uses looped and layered cello, electronics, and field recordings to explore the intersections between the human world and natural world, the melding of the technological and the organic, the patterns and repetitions that exist in nature and are mirrored in human creations.

Kent has composed a number of original film scores, and her music has been used as accompaniment to theatre and dance performances.  She has toured throughout Europe and North America, including appearances at Primavera Sound in Barcelona, the Donau festival in Austria, Meltdown in London, and the Unsound festival in New York City. The concert will also feature Luke Damrosch, visual artist, composer and electroacoustic percussionist based in Providence, RI.
