The 2012-2013 Whitehead Concert Series continues with A Jazz Concert: Brothers with Colors for Others on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 at 6:00pm in the Whitehead Auditorium, with a cocktail reception beginning at 5:30pm. Program includes original music by Luke and Matt Marantz. In a contemporary music world dominated by complexity, Matt and Luke Marantz find their home with beautiful melodies and heartfelt lyrics. With both brothers having attended prestigious conservatories, Matt at the Manhattan School of Music, Luke at the New England Conservatory of Music, both are well versed in everything from the bebop cannon to the more contemporary improvisational language of modern jazz. While jazz elements are obviously present in the music, the band leans more toward folk and rock influences citing musicians and bands such as Elliott Smith, the Beatles, Iron and Wine, Sufjan Stevens and others. The quartet featured at this concert also includes John Lockwood (bass), Lee Fish (drums), and Greg Duncan (guitar), with Luke Marantz on the piano and Matt Marantz on the saxophone. All concerts in this series are free to the Whitehead community and friends.
