Liz Katcoff began her industry internship along with most of her MIT Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) classmates in June 2011. The plan was for her to work at Nissan in Smyrna, Tennessee, and return to MIT to write her master’s thesis, and graduate in June 2012. But after only three days of the six-month internship, everything changed when she was diagnosed with cancer. Katcoff and her family and friends were understandably much more concerned about her treatment and recovery than about her finishing her internship or graduating on time.
