Graduate Women at MIT (GWAMIT) is pleased to announce the annual GWAMIT Empowerment Conference will be held at MIT from Tuesday, April 9th to Thursday, April 11th, 2013.  The Spring Empowerment Conference, started in Spring 2010, seeks to provide resources for and promote discussion of issues relevant to the personal development and life choices of graduate women.  Registration is now open.  Come to any or all Empowerment Conference events at no cost! (Events requiring an RSVP may fill up quickly).

How to Communicate to Establish Credibility and Authority
When: Tuesday, April 9, 5-6:30pm, reception to follow.

Speaker: Michele Souda, Founder and President of WORDPOWER Communications and Cambridge Communications, LLC

For the best and brightest women scientists — that’s you. How you must communicate to establish credibility and authority – whether on the podium, in a meeting, or in everyday exchanges with your colleagues.‬ Catered reception from 6:30-7:00pm.

Career Paths, Life Paths
When: Wednesday, April 10, 12-1pm, lunch reception at 11:30am.

Panelists: Professor Muriel Medard (MIT), Dean Christine Ortiz (MIT), Professor Evimaria Terzi (BU), Professor Katrin Wehrheim (MIT)

Four accomplished professors at different stages of their careers and personal lives discuss the challenges that women in academia may face in their paths to success and share their own stories with the audience. Refreshments and light lunch available from 11:30am.

Why is a Network for Women Scientists Valuable to You?
When: Wednesday, April 10, 5-6pm, reception to follow.

Speakers: Julia Tartaglia, Christina Tartaglia, Scientista Foundation

Julia and Christina will discuss why you should be in a network for women in science and the value of community for female scientists. They will also reveal how they came to found their organization, The Scientista Foundation. Catered reception from 6:00-6:30pm.

Keynote: Empowering Yourself and Other Women on the Road to Success

Speaker: Dr. Beth Lange,‬ Mary Kay Chief Scientific Office ‬

We are not born leaders, but must learn how to lead along the road to success.  Dr. Beth Lange will discuss the importance of taking responsibility for your own career and success, of embracing your uniqueness as a female leader, and of being a positive female role model. Catered reception from 6:00-6:30pm.
