During her final year in the Department of Atmospheric and Planetary Science at MIT, Sarah Stewart Johnson received the 2008 Hugh Hampton Young Fellowship. The fellowship opened her opportunities during graduate studies, giving her time to take on a side pursuit: Johnson joined the Energy and Environment Advisory Committee for the Obama ’08 campaign. When Obama won the election, this led to a position as a policy analyst with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
